The challenge of preserving Human Rights in an AI age
Human Rights is a Common of equality among humans that has been enshrined in conventions and laws and helps advance humanity establishing essential protections and freedoms that enable individuals to develop their full potential, foster social progress, and create more just, peaceful, and sustainable societies for all.
Having tamed physical force during the industrial age, Humanity is now on the path to emulate intellectual potential with the AI revolution, and make AI another Common for humanity. AI offers opportunities to humankind evolution, but in doing so, threatens the very foundation on which Human Rights have been erected.
Human Rights already struggle to survive in a world of uneven influence, Can the societal values enshrined in Human Rights survive the AI revolution? How can AI be harmoniously integrated and shared as another Common?
Evolving and enabling Human Rights in the age of AI, forces the following questions:
- How do Human Rights need to evolve to reflect the transformations AI brings while protecting the fundamental rights that define our Humanity?
- How to shift from a paradigm where rights are expected but not mandated to one where they are mandated and respected?
- How to code Human Rights into the AI fabric?
